This is the CNC Kabuto FRT, and it's the cleanest machine work we have ever put on our shelves. It's made in Texas by one of the true pioneers of the Kabuto design. The housing is CNC machined from 6061 aluminum and anodized a deep red, so it won't crack at the shelf the way nylon and printed housings can. The lever, activator and pin are CNC and EDM cut from S136 steel, then hardened and blackened.

It ships with a high-grade PLA 3-position selector, the industry standard on Kabuto kits, on a housing that's a big step above standard.

Fitment: Read Before You Install
The Kabuto works off the top of your lower receiver, so the distance to the safety and trigger is different on every lower. That's why no single activator length fits every rifle. The housing is pre-trimmed to fit as many lowers and uppers as possible, but tolerances vary from manufacturer to manufacturer, so some rifles will need minor shaving.
To test: push the lever all the way back into the reset position, then look at how the housing sits. If the housing lifts, the activator tip is too long. Shave the bottom tip a little at a time until the housing stays seated.

Running it in a PCC
The Kabuto also runs in AR-pattern pistol caliber carbines in 9mm, .40 S&W and .45 ACP. PCC lowers and bolts vary more than AR-15s do, so expect some minor fitment and adjustment: activator tuning, buffer and spring choice, and a function check before live fire. Take the time to tune it and it will run.
Required hardware
- M16-profile (full-auto cut) BCG. A semi-cut BCG will not engage the reset. We run the MPI Nickel Boron M16-Cut BCG.
- Heavy buffer, H2 minimum and H3 preferred. Shop AR-15 buffers for FRTs.
- Full-power ammo. Underpowered loads may not cycle far enough to engage the reset.
- Function-check on Safe, Semi and Forced Reset before live fire.

Can I get it with a metal selector?
Yes. Same CNC aluminum housing and hardened S136 internals, with your choice of a monolithic CNC selector or a CNC ambi selector in black, red, blue or gold. Build your own custom Kabuto.
Is the Kabuto FRT good?
The Kabuto is one of the most popular drop-in FRT designs because it's simple and affordable. The weak point on most kits has been the housing. This one is machined from solid aluminum, so the part that used to crack is now the strongest part of the kit.
Will it fit my lower without any work?
Often, but not always. If the housing lifts when the lever is in the reset position, shave the bottom tip of the activator a little at a time. The walkthrough video above shows the process.
Does it work in PCC builds?
Yes, in AR-pattern PCCs in 9mm, .40 S&W and .45 ACP. PCC lowers and bolts vary more than AR-15s do, so plan on some minor fitment and adjustment, mainly activator tuning and buffer setup, before it runs right.
Does it need a full-auto cut BCG?
Yes. The Kabuto needs an M16-profile (full-auto cut) BCG to engage the reset. A semi-cut BCG will not work.
Is the Kabuto FRT legal?
Forced reset triggers fire one round per trigger pull, but some states restrict them. Check our state-by-state FRT legality guide before you order. It's your responsibility to know and follow your local laws.
