There’s nothing like a morning on the Chesapeake Bay, especially when it’s spent crabbing with family. Recently, I took my 13-year-old daughter on her first real crabbing trip aboard the Elizabeth May. My dad's commercial crabbing boat. We headed out near Pooles Island and Hart-Miller Island. The crabs were running strong on this late July day and the weather was perfect with a gentle southernly breeze. My daughter got her first taste of crabbing pulling the traps, baiting the pots, and culling the undersize crabs back into the water. By mid-morning, we had three bushel of beautiful Chesapeake blue crabs.
Back on shore, we fired up the steamer and seasoned the crabs the way we always have—with J.O. Crab Seasoning, a Maryland favorite. As we sat there picking freshly caught crabs with family we talked about the decades of crabbing and all the memories that last a lifetime.
