About Kokopelli

Founded in 2012 out of a garage in Denver, Colorado, Kokopelli Outdoor Inc. set out to do one thing: make the world's waterways accessible to anyone willing to carry a backpack. Their packrafts pack down to the size of a paper towel roll or a small duffel, yet inflate into capable, field-proven vessels for everything from serene alpine lakes to Class IV whitewater rapids.

Kokopelli builds around three foundational pillars — Performance, Education, and Community. Every boat is designed in-house and engineered with cutting-edge materials including TPU, 1,000-denier reinforced PVC, and Kevlar-reinforced composites, delivering the ideal balance of weight savings and structural integrity for backcountry abuse. The result is a lineup that earns the trust of hikers, bikers, overlanders, anglers, and whitewater paddlers worldwide.

The model range covers every water type: the ultralight Adventure Series (Rogue Lite, XPD) for hike-in or bikepacking missions; the Whitewater Series (Recon, Nirvana, Rodeo) for technical river running; and the Lake Series (Twain, Hornet Lite, Moki kayaks) for flatwater exploration and multi-person adventures. Self-bailing floors, optional TIZIP waterproof cargo storage zippers, and removable tracking fins give paddlers the ability to configure their boat precisely for the mission at hand.

With distribution across North America and a passionate global community, Kokopelli has redefined what portable paddling looks like — proving that the best watercraft is the one you can carry to places no boat trailer can reach.

Warranty

Kokopelli covers all packrafts, kayaks, and accessories against defects in materials and workmanship for the lifetime of the product for the original owner; the TiZip zipper cargo storage has a separate 1-year warranty.

Kokopelli FAQs

Is Lotz Outdoors an authorized Kokopelli dealer?

Yes — Lotz Outdoors is an authorized Kokopelli dealer. That means every packraft and inflatable kayak you purchase here is backed by Kokopelli's official limited lifetime warranty and is eligible for warranty service directly through Kokopelli Outdoor Inc.

What's covered under Kokopelli's warranty?

Kokopelli provides a limited lifetime warranty covering defects in materials and workmanship on all packrafts, inflatable kayaks, SUPs, and accessories — for the lifetime of the product for the original owner. The warranty is non-transferable and requires proof of purchase from an authorized retailer or Kokopelli.com.

The one exception is the TiZip waterproof cargo storage zipper, which carries a separate 1-year warranty. However, the packraft itself remains covered for life even if the boat includes a TiZip.

The warranty does not cover damage from misuse, modification, improper use or maintenance, accidents, neglect, fire, or acts of nature. To submit a warranty claim, contact Kokopelli directly through their warranty form at kokopelli.com/pages/warranty.

What's the difference between self-bailing and TiZip models?

These are two different features that address different paddling needs, and they can overlap — some boats offer both options.

Self-bailing refers to the floor design. Self-bailing packrafts have an inflatable floor elevated above drain holes, so water that enters the boat automatically drains out. This design excels in warm-weather whitewater where you expect water entry and want quick self-rescue capability. It also simplifies scouting: you can step in and out of the boat easily without bailing by hand.

Spraydeck models take the opposite approach — the paddler's legs sit beneath a deck with a spray skirt seal (like a whitewater kayak), keeping water out entirely. This is better for cold conditions and bigger rapids where staying dry matters.

TiZip is an optional add-on available across multiple Kokopelli models (XPD, Rogue Lite, Recon, Nirvana, Twain, and others). It is a waterproof, airtight zipper sewn into the side of the inflatable tube that lets you store gear inside the pontoon itself — ideal for multi-day packrafting trips where you need to carry overnight gear in a dry, buoyant package without strapping items to the bow or stern.

Which Kokopelli model is right for me?

Kokopelli organizes their lineup into series based on intended use:

  • Rogue Lite / Rogue Spraydeck (Adventure Series): The ultralight, go-anywhere packraft that started it all. At just 6 lbs, it rolls to paper-towel roll size and handles Class II+ water as well as calm lakes. Best for hikers, bikepackers, and anyone who prioritizes portability. TPU construction.
  • XPD (Adventure Series): A step up in durability from the Rogue with 1,000d nylon construction, a removable tracking fin, and a 14-lb weight. A versatile all-arounder for moderate whitewater and flatwater touring.
  • Nirvana (Whitewater Series): Dedicated whitewater packraft in TPU construction — lighter and more packable than the Recon (under 12 lbs). Available in self-bailing or spraydeck versions. Suited for hikers accessing technical whitewater up to Class IV.
  • Recon (Whitewater Series): Kokopelli's toughest packraft, built from commercial-grade 1,000d reinforced PVC (the same material as full-size whitewater rafts). Heavier at ~18 lbs, it's built for road-to-river trips, after-work laps, and repeated abuse on Class I–IV. Available self-bailing or with spraydeck.
  • Rodeo (Whitewater Series): Kokopelli's most advanced and whitewater-focused packraft, built for paddlers who want to push into aggressive Class IV+ terrain.
  • Twain / Twain Lite (Lake Series): A 10-foot two-person packraft (or spacious solo boat) with a removable fin for flatwater tracking. Great for tandem paddling, anglers, and anyone who wants extra room.
  • Hornet Lite (Lake Series): The most affordable and lightest entry point at just 5 lbs — perfect for calm lakes and beginner paddlers.

How do I care for and store a packraft?

Proper care extends the life of your Kokopelli packraft significantly. Follow these guidelines:

After each use:

  • Rinse the packraft thoroughly with fresh water, especially after saltwater or sandy river use.
  • Remove all sand and grit from the interior crevices — abrasive particles can damage the material over time.
  • Allow the boat to dry completely before storing. Never pack a wet packraft.

Storage:

  • Store loosely rolled or flat in a cool, dry location — not tightly compressed for extended periods.
  • Avoid leaving the packraft in direct sunlight for prolonged periods, as UV exposure degrades TPU and PVC materials.
  • Do not place heavy or sharp objects on top of a stored packraft.

TiZip care: If your boat has a TiZip cargo zipper, apply the included lubricant to the zipper teeth regularly, sliding the zipper back and forth to distribute it evenly. Keep the zipper clean of sand and debris, which can damage the teeth over time.

Repairs: Kokopelli includes a repair kit with each boat and performs complete repairs in-house. For minor punctures, a field repair can be done with the patch kit. Contact Kokopelli at kokopelli.com for warranty repairs or professional service.
