About Leupold

Leupold & Stevens has been building world-class optics in Beaverton, Oregon since 1907, when Fred Leupold and Adam Volpel founded the company with a single promise: "The customer is entitled to a square deal." What began as a surveying equipment shop became a cornerstone of American optics manufacturing — and more than 115 years later, that family commitment remains the foundation of everything Leupold makes.

The company's optics heritage traces back to the 1940s, when Marcus Leupold missed a buck because his scope fogged up. He vowed to build something better — and in 1947 introduced the Plainsman, the first truly fog-proof rifle scope built by Americans, sealed and filled with pure nitrogen to resist even the most dramatic temperature swings. That spirit of innovation has never stopped: Leupold pioneered the iconic Duplex reticle, the industry's first compact riflescopes, illuminated reticle technology, and a full line of tactical optics trusted by U.S. military forces.

Today, Leupold designs, machines, and assembles its core optics — rifle scopes, red dot sights, binoculars, rangefinders, and spotting scopes — right in Oregon. The result is a product line defined by rugged reliability, elite optical clarity, and an unwavering dedication to performance under the harshest field conditions. Whether you're glassing an elk basin at first light or dialing in a precision shot at the range, Leupold optics are engineered to perform without compromise.

What truly sets Leupold apart is the confidence behind every product: a Lifetime Guarantee that covers any owner, not just the original purchaser, with no time limit and no proof of purchase required. That's not just a warranty — it's a statement about how long Leupold believes its optics will perform. When you pick up a Leupold, you're carrying over a century of American craftsmanship and a company that stands behind every glass it makes.

Warranty

Leupold's Lifetime Guarantee covers any riflescope, mount, red dot, binocular, or spotting scope that doesn't perform — repair or replacement is free, for any owner, with no proof of purchase and no time limit.

Leupold FAQs

Is Lotz Outdoors an authorized Leupold dealer?

Yes — Lotz Outdoors is an authorized Leupold dealer. That means every Leupold product you purchase from us is 100% genuine, brand new, and fully eligible for Leupold's Lifetime Guarantee and all applicable manufacturer support. You can buy with complete confidence knowing your optic is covered directly by Leupold's industry-leading service and repair program.

What's covered under the Leupold Lifetime Guarantee?

Leupold backs its riflescopes, mounts, red dot sights, binoculars, and spotting scopes with a Lifetime Guarantee that is among the strongest in the optics industry. If your Leupold product doesn't perform, Leupold will repair or replace it — free of charge — with no proof of ownership, no warranty card, and no time limit. The guarantee even transfers to subsequent owners, so it doesn't matter if you bought the scope new or used.

Rangefinders (RX series) and rangefinding binoculars (BX series) are covered by a separate Electronics Limited Five-Year Guarantee, which covers defects in materials and workmanship in the electronic components for five years from the date of purchase. Leupold Performance Eyewear carries a Limited Lifetime Guarantee covering defects in materials and workmanship. The Lifetime Guarantee does not cover damage from modification, misuse, accidents, or abuse. To start a warranty service request, call Leupold at 1-800-LEUPOLD or visit leupold.com/return-warranty-services.

How do I choose the right Leupold scope for my rifle and hunting style?

Choosing the right Leupold scope comes down to three main factors: magnification range, objective lens size, and reticle type.

Magnification: For close-range hunting in thick timber, a low-power variable like a 1-4x or 2-7x gives you a wide field of view. For open-country and long-range shooting, models in the VX-6HD or Mark 5HD lines offer ranges like 3-18x or 5-25x for extended reach. Most all-around hunters do well with a 3-9x or 4-12x scope.

Objective lens: Larger objectives (50mm+) gather more light for low-light dawn and dusk hunting, but add weight and require higher rings. A 44mm objective is an excellent balance for most hunters.

Reticle: Leupold's Duplex reticle is a timeless choice for field hunting. For precision shooting or long-range work, BDC (Bullet Drop Compensating) or MOA/MRAD grid reticles like those in the Mark series offer precise holdover references. If you have questions about which model fits your setup, contact us at 925-222-LOTZ — we're happy to help.

Where are Leupold products made, and how do I register my product?

Leupold designs, machines, and assembles its core optics — including rifle scopes, red dot sights, and binoculars — at its manufacturing facility in Beaverton, Oregon. Leupold has been a family-owned American manufacturer since 1907, and its commitment to domestic production is a core part of its identity and quality control.

To register your Leupold product, visit leupold.com/product-registration. While registration is not required to receive warranty service (no proof of purchase is needed for the Lifetime Guarantee), registering your product can help streamline any future service requests and keeps you connected to Leupold news and updates.
