About Stone Creek Outfitters

Founded in 1985 by Pam and Rocky Bloskas in Greeley, Colorado, Stone Creek Outfitters has earned its reputation as one of the most dependable names in the fly fishing industry. As fourth-generation Colorado natives with a lifelong love of the outdoors, the Bloskas family built Stone Creek on a simple principle: anglers deserve quality gear they can trust, at a price that won't keep them off the water.

Stone Creek's product lineup covers every stage of the fly fishing experience. Their fly rods — including the HG™ Series, Cutthroat™ Series, and Trout Stalker outfits — are engineered for performance in both freshwater and saltwater. Their fly reels, from the Poudre™ Series to the TS2 and Voyager™ models, pair seamlessly with their high-floating, sinking, sink-tip, and small-stream fly lines. Purpose-tied flies — dry flies, nymphs, streamers, and midges — round out a complete on-the-water selection.

Beyond rods and reels, Stone Creek supplies the tools and accessories serious fly anglers rely on daily: tippet and leaders, strike indicators, fly floatants and treatments (including Uncle Rocky's Bugg Dope line), landing nets, creels, fly boxes, vests, rod tubes, and complete starter kits that put beginners on the water with everything they need.

With over 40 years in the industry, Stone Creek Outfitters continues to thrive because of its commitment to quality, honest pricing, and direct customer service — often handled personally by the owners themselves. That enduring track record, while many competitors have come and gone, speaks to the trust anglers place in the Stone Creek name.

Which Stone Creek fly rod is right for me?

Stone Creek offers fly rods across several series to suit different fishing styles and skill levels:

  • 4 wt. — Ideal for small streams and delicate presentations with lighter tippet. Great for smaller trout on tight, technical water.
  • 5 wt. — The most versatile all-around trout rod. Handles most freshwater situations from small creeks to medium rivers. The Trout Stalker Starter Kit is available in this weight.
  • 6 wt. — Better for larger rivers, bigger flies, or windy conditions. Also works well for bass and larger trout.
  • HG™ Series — A moderate/fast action rod suited to everyday trout fishing.
  • Cutthroat™ Series — A versatile performer across a range of conditions.
  • Mini Rod/Reel Outfit — A compact 0/2 wt. setup perfect for small mountain streams and creek fishing.

If you're just getting started, the Trout Stalker Starter Kit (available in 4, 5, or 6 wt.) includes the rod, reel, line, leaders, tippet, tools, floatant, and a landing net — everything you need in one package.

What's included with a Stone Creek combo kit?

Stone Creek combo kits are designed to get you on the water immediately with no extra shopping required. The Trout Stalker Starter Kit includes:

  • Stone Creek Trout Stalker Rod/Reel Outfit with fly line (choice of 4, 5, or 6 wt.)
  • Three 9' leaders (3x, 4x, and 5x)
  • Three 50m tippet spools (3x, 4x, and 5x)
  • T-Style tippet holder
  • Water Mark Angler's Tool Kit (forceps, nippers, and zinger)
  • Uncle Rocky's Bugg Dope gel fly floatant
  • Uncle Rocky's Super Fly powder fly treatment
  • Stone Creek Wooden Ghost landing net

Stone Creek also offers individual Rod/Reel combos that can be set up with line, leader, and backing for anglers who prefer to customize their setup.

How do I care for fly fishing gear?

Proper care extends the life of your Stone Creek fly fishing gear significantly:

  • Fly rods: Dismantle your rod after each use, especially after fishing in saltwater or tropical conditions. Use lukewarm, soapy water and a soft sponge to clean the reel seat and guides. Dry thoroughly before storing in a rod tube.
  • Fly reels: Rinse with fresh water after saltwater use. Wipe down with a soft cloth. Avoid storing with the drag fully engaged, which can compress the drag components over time.
  • Fly lines: Clean your fly line periodically with a mild soap and fresh water to remove dirt and algae that reduce floatability. Allow to dry fully before winding back on the reel.
  • Flies: After fishing, rinse your flies in fresh water and let them air dry fully before returning them to your fly box to prevent rust and hook degradation.
  • Tools and accessories: Rinse metal tools like forceps and nippers with fresh water after each trip and dry thoroughly. Apply a light lubricant to hinged tools seasonally.
